Is 46 a good number of queries?

http://www.turtletips.com/forums/?explain=1

It's not a dedicated server so I don't really care, just curious...

If it's not a dedicated, do you mean it is a shared server? If it is, then you should care, as 46 is quite a few queries. Too many queries, and you may affect other sites sharing your server, and your host may get upset. Is that for your forum homepage?

46queries is high. if you have a really busy site, you might end up with your provider knocking on your email requesting you to disable the scripts.
i just looked at your forums. you have html enabled? in other words, you let a door open to hackers. i have no idea why it was added the html code option for bulletin boards, is the worst idea they could come up.

You messed up your $templatesused variable and template caching somehow. It's calling templates all the time.

You need to add templates used in your index.php to $templatesused at the top of the index.php file

I managed to get my main site down to 9 queries and 11 queries on a content page

I got it down to 35 by only assigning $templatesused once (it was being assigned again a few lines down again). The Member of the Day hack does a bunch of queries it looks like too...

Probably, you must have a query inside the forums loop.
