Post Thank You Hack STAFF EDIT: Note - The mod author has been unreachable for some time, but the vbulletin.org community has stepped up to provide a number of individual fixes over the years. ForceHSS, Hippy, and Seven Skins have all combined many of these fixes into product files. ALL CREDIT STILL GOES TO ABE1 And this is still 'his' mod. Please still mark the mod as installed if you use any version of it. That said so you don't need to apply a dozen + small fixes yourself you should consider downloading one of the updated packages below: Hippy has one in this post. AND / OR ForceHSS has one in this post. AND/OR Seven Skins has one in this post. - Original File Specs: post_thanks_7_82.zip (26.4 KB, 24844 downloads) - Original file removed, replaced with patched files including search fix (some admins noticed hackers attempting to use outdated code to exploit search in attempt to gain administrator password or similar). - There are five total patched versions available, some with and without the search fix - I've replaced the main file with the patched versions... please be sure to download and install the correct version, the main mod post contains links to additional information and patched files! - If Abe1 returns he can request these packages be removed. About this hack: One of the biggest problems on forums as you may know is 'posts boosting'. There are users who LOVE to say 'thanks' when ever they can. How can it hurt? Their post count goes up, they have nothing to loose. There are also users who really like to express their thanks to post but don't like posting a post that looks like they're post boosting. Then comes the moderators who have to delete people's thanks yous so a thread can look readable with out the thanks yous thrown around. Finally comes the posters of these useful posts. They have no idea how many people really likes their posts if only some people say 'thanks'. What this hack does is fix ALL these problems - except those users who like post boosting. This places a button called 'thanks.' When a user clicks on it, it places his username in a box right under the post saying that so-and-so says 'thanks' for the post. Every-one who clicks is placed in one box. By giving your users the extra feature, you forum will look allot nice and organized. It is a guaranteed liking by ALL the members of your forum. Features:
Version 7.80 (12/30/09):
Version 7.81 (01/02/10):
Version 7.82 (01/03/10):

Edit: To be clear, there was no exploit in the original file (that we could see, BOP5 checked it) however Marv noticed some odd database errors and then subsequently asked Dave to look into the code - basically the search table was being used when it should not have been so instead of leaving up one single download link and having many members assume it was current I decided to remove the primary download and replace with patched versions THEREFOR you need to read the two posts by Hippy and ForceHSS (links to those post in the main mod description above) to ensure you're downloading and installing the correct version. Special thanks to Marv for the report and suggestion plus Dave's assistance as well.

http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showt...50#post2249550 The datelines confuse me... so not sure if the 7.85 came after the 7.84 or not due to how those dates are formatted but one would assume a .85 would come after a .84 since its a higher number and if we follow the normal version number guidelines per say. The reason I removed the original file was to avoid having future users of this mod report odd database errors thus prevent them from becoming seemingly "freaked out" by what appears to be a hacking attempt to their forum. Edit: You could send ForceHSS a PM asking for clarification on that though Nevermind I just sent ForceHSS and pm and asked for clarification ![]()

Snippet:
I would update as someone is actively trying to exploit your forum and/or information and while its more so a mistake in using the table as Dave mentioned to Marv its still the fact they have somewhere/something to plug away at i.e. trying to exploit so best to nip it in the bud imo.

Just curious here LastSuperman, this latest update of yours, will it be database compatible with the older plugin? Because I plan on reimporting my current vBulletin database into an older backup in which I'm using the 7.84 version, I won't get any trouble or so if I do?

ForceHSS has submitted a new file, post_thanks_7_85 For 4.2.0 - 4.2.3 vb version updated.zip which does include the search fix along with some other small fixes including the one mentioned by Semprot - http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showp...postcount=3522
Thanks Force!!! Edit: *This does not mean that you're required to upgrade, it's an updated version from ForceHSS including small fixes and the search fix so with that said, you only need to update if you want the search fix in place and the small bugs sorted (one of which is a comma between usernames to make it display better etc). Please read the most recent replies in the thread for current information from members who use the post thanks mod by Abe1.

The "Collapse" button shows whether the list of thanking members is exposed, or collapsed. He is asking whether the "Collapse" can be changed to "Expand" when the desire is to expose the list of members.
Also, can the "Collapse" button be removed totally, so that the default of the list of members who give thanks is always showing? My 7.84 installation didn't have the "Collapse" button and just showed the list members. I like that better because otherwise it requires the members to click on the button the expose the list (an extra step). Thanks No members have liked this post.
