Roost Web Push

Roost provides Safari Push Notifications for your forum. Users specifically enabled (checkbox) push for forums or threads.

When a thread is enabled, for example, the user will receive a Safari Desktop push notifications when that thread is updated. If they click on it, they will be taken to that thread, even if the browser is currently closed. The same is true for forums.

Users must specifically opt-in, so they are sent nothing by default.

Chrome and Firefox support coming soon.

Installation Instructions:
-----------------
CREATE A ROOST ACCOUNT

1) Go to goroost.com in your browser and create a Roost account for free.

2) When you get to step 3 (How would you like to install Roost?), click 'Check my Installation'. THIS WILL FAIL - click 'Ignore Error'.

You can close the Roost tab now - your Roost account has been created.

INSTALL THE ROOST MOD INTO YOUR VB SITE

3) Install the mod (see the bottom of this post for the link) into your vBulletin.

4) Click Settings->Options.

Find the 'Roost Settings' on the right, and double-click on it.

5) Type in your Roost Username and Password.

6) Under the top option, 'Enable Roost Web Push Plugin', click 'Yes'.

7) Roost should now show that it is enabled, and the bottom setting should also be 'Yes' so show that it is verified.

If it is not enabled, or if any fields are blank, check your Username and Password and enable again.

TO TEST THE RESULTS

8) On a Safari browser, go to your forum site and open any forum where are willing to make a quick post.

9) In You should be prompted by Safari asking if you want to receive notifications from the forum. Click 'Allow'.

10) On the right, just above the thread list, you will see a button labeled 'ENABLE NOTIFICATIONS'. Click it.

The label should change to 'DISABLE NOTIFICATIONS'.

11) From a separate account on that same forum, in separate tab:

Reply to something on that forum, or make a post on that forum.

You should receive a push notification. If you click on it, it should open a new tab to that post.
