Steam Connect

INFO

-- Steam Connect Addon for vBulletin 4.2.x;
Development Platform := vBulletin 4.1.3 - 4.2.0, Debian Linux, PHP5, MySQL5, apache2;

Dependencies := lib cUrl (PHP), openid (included);

Author := Andreas "Radon" Rudolph, Disasterpiece;

Contact := radon@purgatory-labs.de, http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/member.php?u=198844

Homepage := http://purgatory-labs.de

WHAT YOU SHOULD KNOW BEFORE INSTALLING

This addon is Unsupported as of 2015 until further notice. I have not enough time or interest in vbulletin to keep this alive.

This addon provides a framework for future extensions which make use of the Steam API.
It helps to determine the SteamID of an user. Unless older methods of inserting the steam
id into a user field, the addon lets the user authenticate with Steam OpenID, therefore
you can trust 100%, that this particular user is the same user as the Steam-ID provided.

Users can link their Steam ID to their forum account or they can create a new account
using details pulled from their Steam Profile.
Like the Facebook connect plugin, it allows users to quickly set up a forum account without
having to define a password or an email address. This option can be disabled in the AdminCP,
however it is encouraged to allow users to use this quick-register feature, since they
already authenticated themselves through steam, so any additional password or email
authentication is just unnecessary.

If the user decides to un-link his forum account with his steam-profile, he has to set up
a password and email first, so the forum account remains usable after this.

At the moment, the addon is in its second RC state, which means that the current versions contain mostly bugfixes and are candidates for a full release.
Until now, the product worked without major problems in productive environments.
Although it is stable as is, the author doesn't provide any guarantee.
Due to the nature of the addon and how vBulletin manages 3rd party code inclusion, additional
login and register methods have been provided by the plugin. It is discouraged to use the
plugin on high profile communities in this early development state.

If you have any further questions, feel free to post in this thread.

F.A.Q. / General Issues / Error Messages

"There has been a problem with the OpenID libary: No OpenID Server found at http://steamcommunity.com/openid"
- Additionally, a 503 HTTP error is thrown. Simple solution: Wait. Steam Community servers are overloaded/down right now, there's nothing you can do about it

Do NOT uninstall the mod if you want to keep the linked users records. Upgrading means uploading the new product xml file for the new version and choose "overwrite" in the upload dialog.
The Installer will handle the update process by its own. Uninstalling the product will erase all the table fields which contain the steam link data.

Looks like the code needs to be placed in the postbit_legacy template of your vbulletin style(s) where in the original style, the avatar would be located.

Primary Usergroup for Steam-Users

Note: This usergroup is ONLY for those who have not set up an email OR a password.
I wish I could override this either way. I'd like 1 usergroup (primary) for the steam linked users, regardless of the user has registered or not before linking. It works just great for new users, as expected. Just not for already registered users. I'm unable to find the specific code in login2 that does this. Its keeping the registered usergroup as main usergroup, while I want it to be the steam linked group.

When the Steam API is down it causes user profiles to hang for about 20-30 seconds when loading them via AdminCP. It doesn't do this on the main site.

Can a fix be made so that it times out in adminCP also? Waiting 30 seconds when I have to view someone's profile is very frustrating.

Is it just the admincp or the regular user profile in member.php?

I have integrated this on my forums. On the user profile page, when I click on the user profile pic the link on the picture is /forums/member.php?striker_wow (invalid) which should be /forums/member.php?1-striker_wow. Any help will be appreciated.

This screenshot may clearly explain the issue, notice the above url (it contains userid: 2 in the url) but when I take the mouse over the picture the url doesn't contain the "2" which redirects to user not found page.

Just in the adminCP.

Also on another note, the Steam API is down currently and when some clicks the "Sign with Steam" button it hangs for about a minute then they get a time-out error on the website.

OK for anyone that is having issues with the steamgroup info returning an error with malformed XML there is a simple fix

So goto your includes folder and open functions_steamconnect.php and look for

Is there anyway I can fix symbols being used for registration? EG, some steam name registered and end results were he/she used the following profile name:

"¡¡¡Heaven 문ƒ‚"

While it should have been "Heaven"

User table is using utf8_general_ci.

Hi, I am using Vbulletin 4.2.3 any chance this plugin might be upgraded to work with it? Right now after a user clicks "Log in" or connect from the steam page I get a web server error. Any ideas?

Hi Disasterpiece.

I have an issue which is quite new to me, but it looks like people are signing up to steam accounts, and then authenticating their forum account through steam for spam. I've started getting 1 -2 new spam users per day. Any advice?

I have never heard of that and considering the work required to sign up with a steam account, i find this hard to believe.

There isn't really a solution so far, as steam link trusts all people signing up with steam link. You could use a secondary usergroup that gets assigned if the user is in a certain steamgroup you can specify.

Other than that, the plugin would need to be extended to look for registration date and steam level as well. But since the project is pretty much abandoned, I cannot assist with that.
