DownloadsII

DownloadsII is a download database that integrates into vBulletin. It allows you to upload files, add images to them, create categories, link to external files - and more. It is very flexible and has many options.

It's also coded 100% XHTML 1.0 Transitional valid, just like vBulletin itself.

Instructions & Support

Requires vBulletin 4.0.4 or higher. Not fully compatible with lower vB 4 versions.
It works fine with both the new editor in vB 4.1.4 or higher and the old one in previous vB versions.

Read the instructions in the next two posts before installing/upgrading this mod!

You can find an installation/upgrade manual in the zip package (Readme.txt).

I try to answer most questions asked in this thread. Please don't send any pm's if I don't ask for them. Don't forget to click the install link, so you will receive important update notifications.

Screenshots & Live demo

At the bottom of this post, you can find some screenshots of the front-end and back-end (AdminCP part) of the DownloadsII software.

You can find a live demo on my own site: Minatica.be Downloads (Dutch).
Though keep in mind that we are running a restyled and modified version of it.

Changelog (version 6.0.9)

Jelle
  • Added support for vB 4.1.8 bit processing with 'each' construct (backwards compatible)
  • Fixed comma listing for vB 4.1.8 (using "old" method)
Older changelogs are included in the zip package.

Help!!! I can't upload large files??

This is probably the most asked question. It's mostly caused by some default PHP settings: check "PHP Max Post Size" and "PHP Maximum Upload Size" at your AdminCP home.

Then have a look at this post for the solution to up these values.
Also have a look at this post at vB.com (but ignore the MySQL part as DownloadsII is only using the file system).

Why is the index file in the downloads folder blank?

I direct my website to /downloads and it just displays a blank page. Everything is uploaded correctly

Because the /downloads folder is the default location for where the downloads get uploaded to. The reason the index file is blank is so that someone can't do exactly what you're trying to do and point their browser at the downloads directory and get the complete listing of all files that have been uploaded.

To actually access the downloads interface in your forums, either click downloads on your forum index, provided you have that enabled, or point your browser to downloads.php in the same folder as your forums index.php is located in.

A major problem

What happens to the files when the upload folder is full?

There's no storage option!

Yes...

If you know how works FTP softwares you'll find that there is a 1998 files limit for a folder.

We should be able to choose in which folders which files are stored depending of the download categories. Not to pack everything in one single folder ( files and images ).

That means that, presently, were are limited to have only 1998 files or 999 files + 999 images ( the files + the thumbnails ).

This is the problem....

Question DownloadsII-6.0.7 and vB 4.14 - Not Compatible?

Greetings -

I just upgraded my vB to 4.14 (release version) and was interested in locating a downloads hack to work in place of LDM 3.0.2 PL1, which appears to be no longer compatible....

The following dependencies were not met:
This product is not compatible with version 4.1.4 of vBulletin. (Compatible starting with 4.0.0 beta 1 / Incompatible with 4.1.0 and greater)
So, I tried installing the Downloads II 6.0.7 hack tonight, and got the following error:

XML Error: Invalid character at Line 2483
Does this mean that Downloads II 6.0.7 is not compatible with vB 4.1.4 either?

Thanks,
SeanE

That's strange. I'm running vB 4.1.4 myself and DownloadsII is working fine
There's nothing special on line 2483 of the product XML.

Try reuploading the XML or upload it to your server and use the "import the XML file from your server" option.

Can this be setup as a media library?

No uploads or downloads.

I simply want a media library page where users can:

1. embed their youtube videos or playlists
2. embed audio (soundcloud etc)
3. embed photos (using image codes (i.e photobucket)
3. have thumb nails appear in a directory
4. be able to organize (and search) by Sections and categories
5. Rename tab etc from Downloads to Media

I know I am describing to some extent 8WayRun.Com - Media Library -- but that mod does not work with 4.1.4.

With 4.1.4 it works fine but when uploading a new file the new editor doesn't show as it should.

The editor is all the way to the left.

See picture.

We changed the max upload size in the php.ini to 64MB. I tried to upload a 58MB file and received:

Block Disabled:      (Update License Status)
Suspended or Unlicensed Members Cannot View Code.

VB version is 4.1.4

Same as Hippy: it works fine on my vB 4.1.4 site. Probably caused by your custom style.

VB version is 4.1.4

Value: 7; Failed to write file to disk.

Have you set up correct writing permissions for your downloads folder (chmod 777)?

Slow Down! You are trying to download files too quickly. You must wait 60 seconds before you may download another file.
UPDATE: I figured it out, I had to enable strict settings and change "60" to "-1".
Please let me know where can I enable strict settings and change "60" to "-1".
Thank so much
