vb4 vs vb3 (need feedback)

I'm really thinking about going back to 3.8 or what ever the latest release is. I know this is a stupid reason but the only reason i want to go back is to use my all time favorite skin and it's a perfect fit for my site. My question is, is this stupid just in general to go back to 3. (whatever). Is there really a big difference between the both besides the coding? I mean most of the mods are the same etc.

any feed back would be great?

You're going to give up a lot just to move back. What not just port the skin?

Yes, you manually recode it for the new version of the software.

Its going to be a heck of a lot easier than downgrading, you'd be losing any third party addon data, and a lot of other stuff. I'd say find a new skin.

I recently upgraded to 3.8.7pl3 from 3.6.8. This was my first interaction with the upgrade process. I am not a coder but I can follow instruction and cut and paste.

I must say that the single largest reason I did not proceed further to VB 4.2.x is the fear of losing our sites appearance in our custom style. Our Style is nothing more VB's Default style with no parent and some changes on the Style/MainCSS page followed by some different images on the server. How would I recover our sites appearance when VB4+ breaks VB3's Style/Main CSS? Or am I missing something?

Is it possible that I can Download our VB3 Custom Style from the AdminCP and upload it into VB4+ as a new skin and it work?

There is a style coverter, it covers the basics. Main CSS was replaced with the stylevar system as a whole.

I'd suggest you start your own topic, for more help, on setting up a test board and testing an upgrade.
