If attachment is over set size, thumbnail is shown

Hi I want to set my attachments so that if the image being added is over a certain size in pixels it will show a downsized version (a size I determine), and make it a link to the full version size to open in a new window.

For instance, if a picture being added is over 600x600, I want it to make a thumbnail of it at 400x400. But if I click the 400x400 image in the post a new window opens to the full size image.

Any help? Thanks all.

I think that would be a useful hack as well, although I never really though about it myself, it is a good idea . I would like to see something like this as well, I hate it when members post images that stretch the forum out by posting large pictures (although the CODE tag does this also, since it is pre-formatted), non-theless, I would like to see this hack if possible.

(good to see you are opening your forums, I have been wanting to know what you site has been about for the past month now, it is getting on my nerves - I could never sign up though because the mailing list was down.)

yeah, the mailing list was messed up in a server move and I never knew!! Sucked.

Yeah the forums open tomorrow. But without this hack the gallery area I created is gonna be a mess when people post wallpapers and such.

I see what you mean, I hate it as much as you do. I would personally love to see this hack be made.

Kaizen, if you plan on doing it, will it be a pay hack or will you be releasing it to the public? Just thought I would ask

What !

Check your icq logs man.

You have a different functions.php file for whatever reason - I asked you to send me it so i could work on the hack in that file.

I'm sry I had to keep going out but that was unavoidable.

You didn't seem to even understand what exactly I wanted. And the license states we cannot send our files to other people.

I knew what you wanted. Regarding the licence: I had forgotten about that.

Case closed. I don't have time for this.

Im not putting you down...chill. I'm just saying that you really didn't understand what I wanted to do. (Not saying its your fault either, could be my lack of a good explanation beforehand). Your initial help didn't even have anything to do with the vB attachments set up. It was a small set of php code not relevent to anything existing in vB.

One more attempt at explaining what it is I would like/hope to do.

vB comes with an option in the admin area to restrict the sizein dimensions of attachments. What I would like to do is use this restriction but change its function. Rather than disallowing if a person has a image bigger than the dimensions, I want it to allow it but run a different attachment image template, then the normal one.

So the only hack/modification needed is to change the current setup from blocking the dimensions I set in the admin cp, to just displaying it in a different template than an attachment lower than the size would be shown in.

God, it sounds confusing even to me. LOL
