Welcome Thread Redirect (on registration) by BOP5

![]() Welcome Thread Redirect by BOP5
This is the VB 3.8 thread. The VB 4.x thread is here although the code is identical: http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/misc....edirctonregvb4 Tested With vBulletin 3.8.6 and 4.0.8 and should work with all 3.8/4.0/4.1 versions released to date. Version 0.9 - BETA. THIS IS BETA SOFTWARE. I have tested it on my test forums and 1 live forum. I do not know of any specific bugs but until I can confirm it works on more forums I will keep it marked as Beta. Demo: http://www.juot.net/forums/showthread.php?t=19281 (You will have to register to be redirected, obviously.) The purpose of this mod is to redirect users to a welcome thread after they have registered instead of the normal message vBulletin usually displays. The idea is to make them feel more welcome and a "welcome thread" seems more natural than a cold vBulletin generated message. This mod can be used two ways. Stand alone this mod will simply redirect users to a specific thread you specify by threadid in the mod options. The second and more intersting way is to use it as an add-on for another mod, BBR - Welcome Thread Upon Registration which can be found on vBulletin.org at: http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=229473. (Yes it is compatible with VB 3.8) This mod has been designed and tested around version 2.02 of the "Welcome Thread" mod. I do not know if it will work with any other version. Using it as an add-on this mod will redirect users to their own personal thread upon registration. If your forum uses Email Verification the redirect will happen after they verify their email address. If you don't use Email Verification they will be forwarded immediately after registration. The mod with auto detect your verification settings. This mod is NOT intended to be used if "moderating" new members, I haven't tested what would happen if you have moderation enabled. Be aware the BBR - Welcome Thread Upon Registration mod has at this time has several known bugs mostly relating to Email Activation. This mod does not cause, nor can it fix any of those bugs. If You intend to use this mod and the "Welcome Thread" mod together you must set your "Welcome Thread" mod to always create the new thread AFTER Email Activation IF you use Email Activation on your forum. I've done my best to make this mod fail gracefully if a setting is wrong, the user generally won't see an error message but if the settings are wrong they may redirect to a different thread or get a message that a thread is not found, but registration will still complete correctly. This mod adds 1 phrase to the "Front End - Redirect Messages group which can be customized or translated. This is the message displayed to the user for the few seconds before they are redirected. Full instructions are in the zip file. Always do a backup or make sure you have a recent backup handy before installing any new mods. Use at your own risk. The Fine Print - If any day should come that I haven't logged into vbulletin.org for over 120 days I hereby authorize this mod and any other mods I have posted on vBulletin.org to be designated "re-usable code" status so long as any mods created from them remain free and available on vbulletin.org. If you come across any problems with this mod please post the exact version of vBulletin you are using, if you are using the "Welcome Thread" mod, If you require Email Activation, and if you're willing, the URL of your forum. This will save me from having to ask you later and prove to me you read this post in full showing me you are worthy of help. ![]() Download Now Only licensed members can download files, Click Here for more information. Joe, if I use this mod http://www.vbulletin.org/forum/showthread.php?t=91887 would I simply leave the option at "no" and add my thread ID?
Just asking because that mod was the predecessor of that new mod you mentioned and wasn't sure if it was compatible.

The BBR Mod was the evolution of this mod.
Looking at the mod you posted- it looks like it makes a new thread for every user? If so then the threadid will be different for each one so no, that won't work. I would consider upgrading your welcome thread mod to the BBR version if you want to redirect users to their personal welcome thread. Alternatively you could make 1 welcome thread not specific to a particular user and put the threadid into this mod as you described. If you're happy with your current welcome mod (no bugs) I would really suggest you wait until either the BBR mod is updated or I do my next significant update of this which will let you use both mods without any known bugs.

Thanks Joe. I'm going to go with the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" mentality for now and stay patient.
But, can't you simply make this be redirected to the 'welcome forum' (or in my case the "new member meet & greet" forum) and not an actual thread? You could add some text stating, please wait as we redirect you to the "introduction forum" or something like that. ![]()

If you want you can install this mod as is and edit the two plugins... in each plugin there are two instances of:
In both plugins you can edit the second instance of the line to:
Where you change 99 to your forumid of your welcome forum. I would also suggest you edit the phrase "bop5_ welcome_ thread" to reflect they are being forwarded to a forum not a thread.

Joe, will you be making a new add-on/mod soon (like this week)? If not, then I will use your suggested change here. Thanks

You can use it to redirect to your welcome forum.

Installed, very nice mod. Thanks.
Does anybody know where I can download the BBR - Welcome Thread Upon Registration Mod? It would be nice to have the two mods working together. BTW. As the BBR mod has been grave-yarded here there is no point having a link to it in the text as appears in the vBulletin Options. No members have liked this post.

Joe, could you 'update' the BBR mod and re-release it?

No- it wasn't marked as reusable code... I'd have to make something new from scratch.

Is there a way to somehow edit this, or perhaps an add-on so that a user is redirected to view a certain thread AFTER clicking away from a the Welcome thread...
As is how I have my forum set up is... A member registers, they are redirected to a Welcome thread. However, after they read the welcome thread and try to navigate away, I'd like it to redirect them to the thread where I have posted the rules.. Thanks in advanced No members have liked this post.
