In order to be legit, what are the steps to be able to sell your vb 4.2.2 Suite?

I know it's a little off topic but it's been a long day and I couldn't figure out the best place to put the post.

Best place to ask this would be a direct ticket to vBulletin Support... I would offer more advice on the subject but seeing as how I forgot about Active/Leased licenses recently they are the source for clarification, as I was told nothing has changed in over 5 years regarding licensing so that must apply to license transfers as well... no wait that change for EU customers was within the past 2 yrs I believe but regardless information and questions about this litter the vbulletin.com forums so it tends to become confusing for some - another reason why I say a direct ticket is best.

From what I recall, it must be eligible for transfer (EU customers can transfer once and may have a transfer fee associated with it) but I'm not 100% on that though. I do know some forums offer venues for selling your license but it still all boils down to IF it's eligible for transfer per vBulletin, if they've transferred once already it's not eligible for transfer again as I recall.

I doubt that would be lucrative, as the license is not a physical item, but a virtual item, so buying it back is in no way increasing inventory.

if they buy it at half of what it cost the buyer then resell it they would make cash on it

No that is not true.

Lets say I have a unlimited amount of something. I sell Joe one for $250.

At some later date I buy it back from Joe for $125, and sell it to Mike for $250.

My net return on the two virtual items $375.

But If I did not buy it back from Joe, and just sold Mike another item, my net return is $500

Only way for me to make a profit in the manner you are referring to is if I only had a limited supply of the item.

I'm not giving up. I'm just not able to spend the money for another year of hosting. A lot of family dynamics going on and I need the money. My birthday is this coming Saturday so unless one of my kids pays for it, in the middle of March my hosting expires. If it get's paid, I'll be around, if not I'll be gone anyway.

You might instead decide (egads Noes!) to switch to a economy hosting package since you're not promoting your forum or hosting alot of traffic. Godaddy (which I have used for ten years with little issues) has a econ shared package for $54 annually. Not per month, per year. Very affordable for a hobby, alot less expensive than most other hobbies.

You already sprung for the software license, it's not that expensive to keep it up in some form.
