Huge thread. How to keep key posts in sight? An inter-thread digest? Thread side bar?

Are there any clever ways of allowing a moderator to pluck out and highlight key posts in one HUGE ongoing thread?

Like some sort of inter-thread digest / ticker?

I know I may be grasping at straws here..

How to let the chatter on the thread flow but at the same time provide an at a glance focus for the more important posts contained within the one thread...?

Any ideas?

I've never seen anything like that before. I've often thought it was a neat idea but I've never put the idea down in code.

It would not be too difficult to do this. It would add one row to the vb_post table and one additional query to the showthread page.
The question I have: how would you display the highlighted posts?
