Spammer Attack Issue

I have a spambot that is filling out a massive amount of registrations, usually I would just block Ip addresses in htaccess but this one is somehow masking their IP address but displaying the IP address of my hosting company so I can't block it in htaccess because the whole site becomes unavailable.

Any ideas?

I guess I will go rearrange the registration page and add some additional human functions.

Is there an option to throttle forum registrations?
