Run vBulletin 4.2.5 on PHP 8.0

vB4 is now (almost) compatible with php 8.0!

This is a major upgrade with hundreds of modifications in almost all php files to make vB4 compatible with php 8.0. To get your upgrade, make a payment at vb4mobile.com and send your vBulletin license number. Yes, you have to be a licensed user to get this working.

Once your payment is verified, we will contact you at your PayPal email address within 48 hours and send you the patched files.

This is not a complete vBulletin installation. You will need your original vB4 files from the members' area at vbulletin.com. This package contains only the patched php files.

Installation:
  1. Backup your database
  2. Backup your forum root folder
  3. Save a copy of your server settings. Take screenshots if needed.
  4. Upload the patched files to your forum root folder and replace existing php files.
  5. Add this line at the top of includes/config.php to disable all add-ons

    Block Disabled:      (Update License Status)
Suspended or Unlicensed Members Cannot View Code.

  6. Go to the php settings on your server and change the php version to 8.0. Make sure to turn off the display errors setting.

Beta release:
PHP 8.0 errors are resolved to the best of our knowledge, but warnings are still there.
You must turn off php error reporting on your server.

If you find any unresolved errors, contact us and we will try to fix them as soon as possible without any extra charge.

This upgrade is only for core vBulletin files. Your additional products and addons will still be incompatible with php 8.0. Contact us to upgrade the addons as well for extra cost.

Warning: PROCEED AT YOUR OWN RISK
Backup your vBulletin installation folder and the database before proceeding with this upgrade. Save a copy of all your server settings. We hold no liability whatsoever for any undesired consequences.

Will this also continue to run under PHP 7.4 or do you have to be at PHP8?
Also would you also be able to work on addons? Can't rally upgrade the core without them...

This addon is priced at $149 USD.

For $11 more, you can purchase Xenforo ($160 USD) which is already fully responsive, secure, and fully supported for the latest versions of PHP, etc.

And for people like me, migrating to another platform would be a 5 digit (in-execess of $10,000) expense. At this point, I am sure those that have jumped already have, and or know what their options are. No need to troll this post...

I have worked wit iA1 before and will be making the purchase as soon as I understand what updating my addons will entail.

It's not trolling. It's informing others who are making a price comparison as I was.

I still have one vB 4.2.5 left running on an EOL version of PHP (7.1.33). I might have been interested in this addon but the price makes upgrading to Xenforo 2.x far more practical and with more features.

Yes, it is backwards compatible, and works fine under PHP 7.4. So far I did not see any errors.

Addons can also be upgraded at extra cost. It will take time but it can be done.

This is only intended for those who want stay with vB4 for any reason. It is far from perfect but at least gives them something to use.
I don't expect a lot of customers either. The price is minimal compared to the time and effort spent on it.

Xenforo is much better option for anyone who wants to migrate.

I haven't developed on vBulletin in many years, having switched to XenForo probably 8 years ago, I wasn't impressed especially not with the price. Having now developed in React and running a SEO company, the speed differences just in rankings alone tied together with the user experience make it worth building something custom to out perform your competition. However, those with little to no developer experience are between a rock and a hard place. There are options such as NodeBB, but it did not live up to my expectations. While it is quicker to develop for than Discourse would be, there's one forum software that I've been following for the past few years that just launched their first stable release.

Flarum is built on PHP and Javascript, so those familiar with developing for vBulletin will have a better understanding of the underlying code architecture. It does have some server requirements that make shared hosting near impossible with PHP Composer, but for an Open Source forum platform, it's amazing. I personally love composer, when the PSR-4 standard came out it was game changing.

I switched to mybb which is free and is exceptional!
It has the vbulletin migration program that works well and fast.

I don't want to burst your bubble, even though MyBB got a reliable import system. But MyBB appears to have low-security problems more than phpBB3.

Personally, I think paying for vBulletin 5 (depending on the addons used from vb.org) is a better choice.

The file adminpermissions.php will not work from your package. There are (5) line edits you made to this file which look to be syntactically incorrect and they will cause a 500 error when trying to update admin permissions. If anyone needs the fixes let me know...

One man's treasure is another man's junk.
For a site like mine, it is pennies on the dollar vs trying to port to a new platform.

As for the price, you obviously do not know the number of changes that were necessary, and time spent scouring the code to make sure it all worked. Go hire a PHP programmer (you do not need anyone with VB knowledge) and see what they quote you

iA1 is very reputable and I am sure validates the legitimacy of his customer's vBulletin license(s). With that since this is a "paid" modification you have to be directed to his site.

Unfortunately, IB or whatever division they want to claim as running vBulletin really does not care much about the world they purchased. .ORG is a mess. ALL the mods left in protest less a few stragglers and never replaced. Where there used to be a huge assortment of developers for vBulletin, I think you can now count on 1 hand how many are left and even fewer actively supporting/developing anything they have.

First off, apologies for the oversight on this remaining up for as long as it did, but I'm not on here as I used to be and certainly not as active so noticing this now, while late, still required some moderation...due diligence? Indeed!

I only recall one or two more similar situations where something was allowed to be listed as a modification, and a service (more so than information compiled in mod-like form) differs from what is allowed here.

Since this remained unmoderated for so long, I don't see an issue with leaving it up as a discussion, vBSEO in it's prime was also discussed on this forum quite a bit despite the rules, because those back then knew how to fish with no bait i.e. don't discuss price. You can say you don't agree with the price, but listing the price or linking to the product or another site with the product(mod) isn't allowed. So this was moved, to the vB4 General Discussion area since it's related to PHP8 + vB4, but please do not discuss price again, and no I'm tired not lazy, and I'm not moderating the above posts, if you see this and are logged-in and would be so kind, I would appreciate it otherwise just be good humans and if you don't have something nice to say don't say it at all, and don't beat around the bush (only on price lol) else I'll throw some gasoline and a match on it and expect you to bring graham crackers, marshmallows, and bars of chocolate then we'll smore together!

Good night everyone, enjoy the fire!
